Site Navigation is a very important consideration of your website design. Your site should be designed so that the newest newbie can thread through your site without getting lost. It is the road map of your site so that your reader knows how to effectively navigate through it.

I had a good laugh the other day while researching this topic when I read that websites should be designed so even your grandmother or grandfather can find their way through it. I laughed since I am a grandfather which indicates that the site must be REALLY easy to navigate. - LOL.

What caused me to focus on this subject came from working on a particular website. Like most websites, it started with only a few pages and was easy to navigate. And like most websites, it grew and became more complex which complicated the site navigation.

The original site navigation pattern was a circular pattern where the reader would follow the links from one page to the next until he/she arrived back at the starting page. This works fine as long as there is never a break. However, we all know that during surfing, you have to get up and tend to something or you go off on a tangent to another page. When you return, it is sometimes difficult to determine exactly where you were. If the reader has to follow several page links back to the continuation point, frustration sets in and “click” the reader is gone.

To solve this site navigation problem, a navigation bar was added to the pages on the website.

A navigation bar (”nav bar”), is the basic tool for site navigation. Navigation bars are usually some form of java script. They are text, buttons, or boxes usually placed on the top or left side of every page. This allows the reader to quickly link to the main pages of the site. A feature that is usually incorporated in the nav bar is the nav bar entry for the current page is indicated by a change of color or appearance to show where you are currently located in the site.

Some HTML editors will build your navigation bar for you. When you build a page, you specify if you want the page included on the nav bar and if you want a nav bar on the page.

The best web host builds your nav bar for you. When you create a web page, you are given options if you want the page listed in the nav bar and if so, what the text on the nav bar should say.

As an aside … if you have a landing page on your site where you want the reader to take only one action (click to buy or click to subscribe), do not put any external links or a nav bar on that page. You do not want to give the reader a means of escape except to close the window.

If you include the nav bar on each content page, it gives the reader a uniform way to get from the current page to any other main page with one click which is desirable. A theory of site navigation says a reader should be no more than two clicks from any other page.

In summary, always consider how your reader will navigate your site. If navigation is easy, your reader will dig deeper and deeper into your site. If navigation is confusing or difficult, your reader will click away from your site and will not return. Work to make that navigation easy and keep your readers happy. Especially for grandmothers and grandfathers!

http://The-Best-Web-Site.com will help you find the best web host to help you create a site that is easy to navigate.

The purpose of this article is by far not to say negative things about other web designers, or programmers, but instead to give website owners a few hints to help them find a designer that may better fit their needs. My hope in writing this article is to create savvier website consumers.

Many website owners are lost, confused and just plain “mystified” about the real purpose of a “web guy”, or web designer. The reason for this is because many designers are often too busy to promptly return emails or give encrypted answers to their client’s questions and concerns regarding their website design needs, its state, and generally what the client is going to gain from having a website.

A friend will suggest his webmaster: “My web designer is great, why don’t you give them a call? Tell them I sent you.” While this may sound like a wonderful idea, you should ensure yourself that your web designer will meet and exceed your “web needs”. You should use the same diligence you’d use if you had to find this person yourself.

So, here are several pointers that website owners should follow when choosing a web designer:

- Check references! Go to sites used as a reference by the web designer and email the owner. Ask questions and see if you get the similar, positive, feedback from the site’s owner.

- Don’t hesitate to check testimonials. In the same fashion you may check reference sites, you may also check testimonials. A quick email, or phone call, to the website’s owner may prove to be enlightening.

- Ask for background info. How long has the designer been in the business and what has he done? In other words, what is their competency and skill level? Is he or she part of any recognized relevant organization or association (International Webmasters Association…)?

- Check the status of the business with the county clerk. Is the designer’s business registered? In other words, know who you are dealing with. If you cannot confirm that the business exists, you should question its legitimacy. The Better Business Bureau may also have a file on the business.

- Is the web designer working full-time or is he designing websites at his leisure? The difference may greatly impact deadlines and how promptly changes are made. In this day and age, fresh content is vital to the success of any website and timely uploads are essential. Furthermore, he may not be up-to-date on the latest news and techniques.

- Where will your personal and website info be saved? Does the designer work in an office? At home? Who has access to the machine your info will stored in? A part-time designer who’s kid will also use the computer for music, video, and homework downloads will simply not be able to safeguard your information effectively, possibly leading to corrupted files and potential hacking of your website.

- The designer should upload all the code files at the end of the project. I’m mainly referring to “master” Flash files (or “.fla” files)

Not sure what’s happening with me on this one, but it seems like the more I listen to it, the better Taking The Long Way gets. Taking The Long Way simply put is one of their best CDs to date.

It’s a rare day indeed that I get a CD from an artist that I can truthfully say does not have a bad track in the bunch. I’m more than happy to announce that’s exactly what I must say about this one. There simply is NOT a bad one in the bunch. No fillers here at all.

Refreshingly, this was one of those CDs I was able to just pop in and comfortably listen to from beginning to end. Every track is enjoyable and was pretty easy for me to listen to from start to finish.

The CD opens with a great track, The Long Way Around, that I suspect will be heard on radio stations everywhere, and deservedly so. It really is a very nice track.

Dixie Chicks is one of those groups that have the ability to just bowl you over with their collective talent. The kind of musicians it’s really a treat to be able to listen to.

If you’re a Dixie Chicks fan, or just a fan of Country music this is a CD your collection simply should not be without.

One of the really nice things about this CD is the way all of the participating artists seem to be really enjoying themselves. Combine that with the overall presentation and you’ve got one of Dixie Chicks most impressive releases ever.

While this entire album is outstanding the truly standout tunes are track 1 - The Long Way Around, track 3 - Not Ready To Make Nice, and track 10 - Voice Inside My Head.

My SmoothLee Bonus Pick, and the one that got Sore […as in “Stuck On REpeat”] is track 7 - Lubbock Or Leave It. Good stuff!

Taking The Long Way Release Notes:

Dixie Chicks originally released Taking The Long Way on May 23, 2006 on the Open Wide Records label.

CD Track List Follows:

1. The Long Way Around 2. Easy Silence 3. Not Ready To Make Nice 4. Everybody Knows 5. Bitter End 6. Lullaby 7. Lubbock Or Leave It 8. Silent House 9. Favorite Year 10. Voice Inside My Head 11. I Like It 12. Baby Hold On 13. So Hard 14. I Hope

Sometimes I wonder if Phoenix is considered the back end of concert dates. So many acts tend to take their Arizona Fans for granted or just bypass us when they have to cancel or reschedule another date. Others seem to forget that we tend to turn out in big numbers for almost any event. Ozzy obviously forgot or just didn’t bleeping care.

Despite a monstrous crowd and dollars flying across the concession tables faster than bats out of hell, Ozzy managed to snub his Arizona Fans by failing to appear at the Phoenix Ozzfest event this past summer. And that’s ironic since Phoenix hosted one of the two very first Ozzfest events in 1996. The other was held in Los Angeles. Maybe we just weren’t worthy of the Master of Metal this year? Not everyone was willing to pay one to three hundred dollars for a ticket and sacrifice their firstborn to Ozzy.

If you’re going to skip out on fans, at least have the decency to record a video welcome message or greeting. There were lots of big screens around, so everyone would have seen it. If Ozzy had lost his voice or didn’t feel well enough to speak, he could have offered a middle finger salute or bitten the head off one of the Backstreet Boys. If even that was too much to ask, the Prince of Darkness could have had his dogs come and crap all over the stage or asked Sharon to open the event by throwing some frozen poultry at the first few fans to arrive. If all else failed, his kids could have come and set fire to piles of N Sync and Snoop Dog CDs to get everyone in the mood for the day’s events.

Fortunately, there are some major acts out there that really care about the fans in this town and know how to show it. Mick Jaeger had some throat problems, so The Stones recently cancelled a few dates in the USA. Phoenix was not one of them. AFI, the CHILI PEPPERS, TAKING BACK SUNDAY and GWAR really rocked the Valley of the Sun over the summer. But my favorite was Evanescence.

I’ll be the first to admit that I hadn’t been up to date on all things Evanescence until my wife brought the Band to my attention several months ago. After I started listening to their music, I was glad she did. It’s been some time since I heard anything that was melodic and unique. While fans might argue otherwise, most artists that manage to get signed these days seem like clones of struggling late eighties alternative music bands or the now infamous and always whiney sounds of the nineties.

I like music that’s different and hate to admit it, but the last concert that I thought was refreshingly distinctive was a Buster Poindexter and the Banshees of Blue show in the early nineties. It was a smaller venue and the music was hot! Being from New York City, I guess I’m a bit jaded. I had the opportunity to be exposed to a constant flow of live music in the form of big acts, street bands and everything in between before relocating to Arizona. On the flipside, it also means that I hold performers to a higher standard and know great music when I hear it. That’s how I felt when attended the Evanescence Concert at the Celebrity Theater last week.

After reading up on Amy Lee and the various Evanescence personnel changes for a couple of weeks before the big night, I was ready for the concert. We bought our tickets as soon as they went on sale. To be honest, they were a bargain for a concert held at the Celebrity Theater. That venue is as intimate as you can get without renting the local high school gym and using only half the space. One would expect to shell out the usual hundred bucks or more for being almost within arms reach of a class act like Evanescence, but we paid somewhere in the thirty to forty dollar range.

Listening to Revelation Theory open the show and hearing Amy Lee belt out her first couple of songs with Evanescence, I really felt guilty for paying so little to see so much talent in such an intimate setting. To make up for it, I tried to buy my wife and kids some band tees. By the time we got up to the front of a very long line, the good sizes were gone. I bought some anyway because I’ve been trying to lose a few pounds lately. If I had any doubts about the band, it had nothing to do with their music or performance. I just wondered if they were getting their fair share?

Reading some of the comments attributed to her by various websites and blogs, I understood that there probably would not be any Amy Lee perfume, designer clothes, signature make up lines or Evanescence action figures available anywhere in the near future. However, whether she is or isn’t a material girl, Amy has to know that she must have been personally responsible for the sudden increase in sales of things like dark eyeliner, black and white knee length socks and long black dresses. Oops, I forgot, and about a billion dollars worth of black hair dye.

It’s not unusual to find artists who are unaware of their actual popularity or real earning potential. After all, they are Artists, not financiers. I got the distinct impression that the members of Evanescence were legitimately surprised by the numbers of fans that showed up for the sold-out event and the many more who wanted tickets and couldn’t get in.

Amy offered an apology for the smaller venue, but all of us really enjoyed the intimate atmosphere. However, here’s a bit of advice from the older and wiser to the lovely and immensely talented Miss Lee and her musical partners: Next time charge extra for the intimacy, find more stuff to sell and return those calls from the big management agencies. Even the ‘evil princess of the undead’ can always use a few extra zeros behind a nice large number in her bank account. Amy and the band certainly earn it!

Oh, yea, I almost forgot. Ozzy, burn in Hell!

The Departed - 4 Stars (Excellent)

Let me get to the most important thing first: Director Martin Scorsese won an Oscar for “The Departed”.

Scorsese, one of the most accomplished directors of our era, has been nominated for 7 Oscars-5 for Best Director and 2 for Best Screenplay-before winning with The Departed.

He had also received 7 Golden Globe nominations-6 for Best Director and 1 for Best Screenplay-and won for Gangs of New York before winning again for The Departed this year (2007).

The Departed is simply the best mob film since Mario Puzo’s original Godfather in 1972.

Besides Scorsese, The Departed won for Best Picture, Best Screenplay (William Monahan) and Best Editing (Thelma Schoonmaker), giving The Departed 4 Oscar wins to The Godfather’s 3 (Marlon Brando for Best Actor, Best Picture and Best Screenplay by Mario Puzo and Francis Ford Coppola).

Mark Wahlberg was also nominated for Best Supporting Actor as Sgt. Sean Dignam.

The Departed also picked up 45 more wins and another 45 nominations, including another win for Scorsese (Best Director) and nominations for Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Best Supporting Actor (Jack Nicholson and Mark Wahlberg) at the Golden Globes.

In short, The Departed brought home more hardware than a Home Depot shopping spree.

The icing on the cake for Scorsese was his best box-office opening ever ($26 million), his highest grossing film ever with $132 million nationally and $288 million worldwide through March 2007, and $48 million more in VHS rentals. The film’s budget was $90 million.

The all-star cast of DiCaprio (Billy Costigan), Matt Damon (Sgt. Colin Sullivan), Jack Nicholson (Frank Costello), Wahlberg (Sgt. Sean Dignam), Martin Sheen (Capt. Oliver Queenan) and Alec Baldwin (Capt. George Ellerby) did not hurt a lick.

The story takes place in Boston where Irish Mob boss Frank Costello (Nicholson) embeds Colin Sullivan (Damon) as an informant with the Massachusetts State Police. Simultaneously, the State Police assign Billy Costigan (DiCaprio) to infiltrate Costello’s crew.

When both sides figure out the situation, it is left to Sullivan and Costigan to discover each other’s identity.

Along the way, 22 people get whacked (this is a Mob flick), the “f” word is used 237 times (about 235 times too many), and we get a study in relationship psychology as the only real love interest-Madolyn Madden-is a criminal psychiatrist who is wooed by both rivals.

The Departed kept my attention riveted for 151 minutes. The three main characters (Costello, Sullivan and Costigan) all show their anguish in balancing survival, winning and conquering the moment.

There are apparently two versions of this film. I saw the longer version that is rated R for strong brutal violence, pervasive language, and some strong sexual content and drug material.

This film is not for children or young adults, not that young adults do not hear the same “f” word dozens a time a day at high schools all over the country, but who needs the “f” word 237 times in 2.5 hours? Nobody.

I managed to tune out the cussing and concentrate on the story, acting and presentation that were excellent for an action flick with Mob presence.

Finding products and services to market online is easier than you may think.

You may be asking yourself how do you start a work at home business and make money on the internet. You have nothing to sell and you do not know anything about computers or the internet, or you might think you do not have anything to write about. Well, if you found this site, then you have some of what it takes to start your own work at home business. One of the greatest things about making money online is you do not need your own product to sell, or a vast knowledge of any particular subject. The internet provides all that for you! Everything you need is available to you if you can learn how to find it and use it to your advantage.

The details of going about it are a little more complex than what I explain here but the concept is relatively easy to grasp. You can make a second income online or even a living promoting other peoples’ products. This is what is usually called affiliate marketing. These products may be actual items from companies like Amazon and thousands of other online merchants. These merchants will pay you a commission to send others to their web site and buy their products or services. Another option is creating a content-rich web site full of useful information pertaining to a specific subject and selling advertising on it or a combination of the two. Both of theses methods can be very hard to start out with if you do not have prior experience. You can also work at home opportunities that teach you how to start making money on the internet; some are free to join and others may be fee-based. As far as the free programs, remember the old adage “you get what you pay for”. You also need to be careful spending your money on a fee-based program. Research the offer thoroughly before you give up your hard-earned money.

Multi-Level Marketing is another great work at home opportunity that is a match made in heaven for the internet. Now, do not roll your eyes and click the back button just yet. I remember the days when I avoided my brother like the plague; he was always bugging people about coming to meetings or telling everyone how great he felt taking vitamins and dietary supplements. I bet the poor guy got pretty lonely for a while there. But MLM online is completely different. In fact, some of the best work at home opportunities to get started with is some form of MLM or tiered program. The beauty is you do not need to bother your family or friends to join or buy the products and your not limited to the people you know to get started. You have millions of people in the online community as prospects; so do not discount MLM online. It is a great way to get start a work at home business and usually these programs have great training resources to get you started because their success is based on your success.

As you can see, the possibilities for earning money online are as limited as your imagination, and the more research you do upfront, the better your chances are for finding the best work at home opportunity that is right for you.

Google’s Adsense program provides the perfect way to generate an ongoing passive stream of income for the savvy internet entrepreneur.

It is free to join and easy to set up.

I hear you ask, if it’s so easy why isn’t everyone making piles of money by slapping Adsense code into the pages of their websites.

Well there are a number of factors that contribute to a webmaster’s success with Adsense not least of all having a contextual website.

If you base your quest to make $500 dollars a day with Adsense on the following, you stand a good chance of sustained success.

1. Don’t build a site for Adsense

Apart from being against adsense’s TOS, site’s created purely to carry adsense ads don’t work in the long term.

They will in all likelihood get banned by Google, won’t make money as well as making it difficult for you to open another Adsense account.

2. Build a Site with Content

Sounds obvious doesn’t it, but sites that are interesting and packed with compelling content are more likely to be revisited and related ads are more likely to be clicked upon.

Be sure to use your own original content - sites that duplicate content get penalized by Google.

Remember that rubbish sites generate rubbish income.

3. Choose Your Site’s Topic Carefully

Whilst your site should be based on your business interests or your hobby to keep your motivation levels high, just keep in mind that certain topics will attract higher value Adsense clicks than others.

For example a website on the mating habits of the north sea clam probably won’t attract any advertisers and therefore no Google Ads to display, let alone traffic.

Making money online and web hosting are topics that will never be short of advertisers, however the competition is higher and therefore more difficult to attract website traffic.

4. Niche Market

Your best bet is to target a niche market that does not have the competition in terms of fellow webmasters but still has a certain amount of interest.

Therefore if your website is cameras, targeting “digital cameras” would be a very competitive term, whilst targeting “underwater digital cameras for scuba divers” would be less competitive and will attract targeted traffic as well as related Adsense ads.

It is important that you understand that the text and keywords you use and the placement thereof will influence the type of ads that are served up by Google.

5. Type of Ads and Placement

The placement of your ads on your web page has a direct influence on your CTR (Click Thru Rate) - the higher the CTR the more clicks your ads are generating and the more money you are making.

To this end, take special note of the heat map provided by Google that shows the best positions for your ads on your web pages.

Also decide carefully on the type of ads and the colors that you choose - the type that blend in well with the look, feel and flow of your site will probably be best in silently persuading your visitors to click on them.

6. Traffic Statistics

Finally analyze your adsense traffic stats as they’re packed with useful information - Google provides such a tool for this purpose with your Adsense account.

To make money with adsense you need to know what your stats are telling you and what you need to know.

The amount of traffic your site generates will obviously influence your adsense income but that is a whole separate subject just on its own.

The point is that for 2 sites generating the same amount of traffic, the site that is optimized for adsense, as above, will earn for more in adsense income than the site that isn’t.

A font is a set of characters of the alphabet in a single typeface. This means that all the letters of the alphabet as well as the numbers will have the same basic design even though the size may change. In the beginning there were the bitmap fonts that were used on windows and Macs. These fonts had a drawback, they could not be enlarged because they would break up and look horrible when printed. Then Apple and Microsoft came up with the ‘True Font’ type that we use today. These fonts and their type can be reduced and enlarged a great deal and still appear normal without getting the jagged edges the bitmap fonts would produce. There are the ‘bitmap’ font type, the ‘true’ font type and ‘true type rasterizer’ font type that are largely used today. All the fonts are entered into the registry of a system and from here they are linked to the documents that are using them.

When we download fonts and storm them on the system for future use the registry makes an entry of where the fonts are located. One font will be related to one type. There are thousands of fonts such as times new roman, trebuchet. Let us understand the difference of font and type. While ‘Times New Roman’ will be the font the type will be the size of the font, which may be any number. The basic rule is the larger the number the larger is the size of the font. When the user formats the text the program refers to the registry to understand what type to apply to the font that has been chosen. The end result can be a great looking document.

Many fonts are downloaded from the Internet. These fonts are constantly changed and their links are disrupted. These disrupted links need to be cleaned or removed from the registry as and when they get redundant. A good windows registry cleaner will do a great job on registry cleaning. Windows XP registry cleaner is a free registry cleaner and can be downloaded from the Internet directly to your system. Many registry cleaners such as PC Mantra’s registry cleaner are tried and tested to be great registry cleaners. They check the system thoroughly and do not remove any links that may in any way have some utility on the system. Many times users download trial versions of fonts. These fonts may be useful for some time and they store links to the site they were downloaded from. This clutters up the registry and slows down the system drastically.

A free windows registry cleaner will scan the registry for such links and fonts and remove them if they are present after the designated date. In this way the free registry cleaner will clean the registry and make the operating system more efficient and fast.
